Dr. Tsolakis graduated from The English School Nicosia in 1983 followed by his military conscription service until 1985.
He completed a medical degree to qualify as a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at Manchester University Medical School in 1990.
He then continued with the pre-registration year at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and gained full registration with the General Medical Council in 1991.
Dr Tsolakis pursued his specialty training in General Practice following a rotation of residencies within the major teaching hospitals and community medical centres under the University of Liverpool. During his training in Liverpool, he also gained the Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning (DFFP) for providing contraceptive and sexual health services within the community.
He completed GP training in 1995 and at the same time he successfully passed the examination for becoming a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in the UK (MRCGP).
Dr Tsolakis continued to work as a fully qualified GP in Manchester and Liverpool until 1996, when he was employed by the Ministry of Defence (UK) and appointed overseas as a Civilian Medical Practitioner (GP) within British Forces Cyprus (BFC).
Upon his return to Cyprus, he worked within the Primary Healthcare Medical Team of the British bases in Cyprus, until Aug2021. Over these 25-years, he pursued additional qualifications and experience in the following areas:
- Chronic Disease Management (Diabetes, Asthma, Hypertension, Mental Health etc.)
- Medical Education, for supervising GP trainee doctors
- Asthma Care Diploma
- Occupational Medicine Diploma, Royal College of Physicians (DOccMed)
- Underwater Medicine (Institute of Naval Medicine)
- Military Aviation Medical Examiner (Centre of Aviation Medicine, RAF)
- Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC), Royal College of Surgeons
- Major Incident Medical Management & Support (MIMMS)
Dr Tsolakis maintained continuous medical education within the UK’s annual appraisal and revalidation system since it was introduced in 2002. This includes regular attendances to various GP Update Courses in order to remain updated with current medical practice and other professional developments and clinical governance activities that maintain and improve the quality of patient care.
He continues to have access to all current evidence-based guidelines that offer up-to-date online clinical support and practical advice for providing consistent quality care for patients in the community.
Upon departing from his MOD medical duties in 2021, he was awarded the Commander’s (CBF) Commendation ‘for 25 years of remarkable and exemplary service in maintaining the health and wellbeing of patients in BFC’.
In May 2021, he became a Clinical Associate at The University of Nicosia, Medical School as an examiner for medical students.
He is a registered Specialist General Practitioner (‘Ειδικός στη Γενική Ιατρική’) in Cyprus since April 1996 and has actively joined GESY as a Family Doctor in Larnaca since January 2023.
